Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Intellectual lectures

Through this prestigious annual event- festival, the chair has hosted a total of Eight Nyerere Intellectual Lectures

1. The inaugural Nyerere annual lecture titled ‘New Imperialism’ was delivered by the first Distinguished Nyerere lecture Professor Wole Soyinka (Nigeria) in 2009.

2. The second Nyerere annual lecture titled ‘Long Road to socialism’ was delivered by Distinguished Nyerere lecture Prof. Samir Amin (Egypty) in 2010.

3. The third Nyerere annual lecture titled ‘From Colonial Borders to African Unity’ was delivered by Distinguished Nyerere lecture Prof. Bereket H. Selassie (Ethiopia) in 2011.

4. The fourth Nyerere annual lecture titled ‘Art, Artists and the Flowering of Pan-africana Liberated Zones’ was delivered by Distinguished Nyerere lecture Prof. Micere G. Mugo (Kenya) in 2012.

5. The fifth Nyerere annual lecture titled ‘Fifty Years of African Independence: Personal Reflections’ was delivered by Distinguished Nyerere lecture Prof. Thandika Mkandawire (Malawi); the sixth Nyerere annual lecture titled ‘Liberating the Mind for Africa’s Advancement’ was delivered by Distinguished Nyerere lecture Prof. PLO Lumumba (Kenya) in 2014

6. The sixth Distinguished Nyerere annual lecture titled ‘Privatization and social justice for grassroots communities’ was delivered by Distinguished Nyerere voices from the grassroots communities (Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and South Africa) in 2015: and

7. The eighth Distinguished Nyerere annual lecture titled ‘Mwalimu Julius Nyerere: A People-Centered development Vision’ was delivered by Distinguished Nyerere lecture HE. Benjamin W. Mkapa (former President of the United Republic of Tanzania) in 2016.
